A man was killed Friday night when he was struck by two cars on Route 22, police said.
William E. Niezgoda, 46, of Whitehouse was hit by the cars a little before 9 p.m. by the Whitehouse Motel, Readington police Detective Sgt. Kevin Campbell said.
Niezgoda was returning to the motel, where he was staying, after buying pizza at the strip mall across the highway, Campell said.
The victim was crossing the westbound lanes when he was first struck by a four-door 2006 Infinity sedan driven by Sandra Kaiser, 53, of Flemington, Campbell said. The impact left Niezgoda lying in the left lane, where he was then hit by a 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Alex J. Kasper, 20, of Whitehouse Station, Campbell said.
Niezgoda was pronounced dead at the scene.
No charges have been filed. Campbell and Readington police Corp. James Beam are investigating the accident, with the assistance of the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit.
