Whitehouse Rescue Squad Responds to Aid Fatally Injured Agent

The Whitehouse First Aid and Rescue Squad responded to the scene of a fatal shooting of a federal officer involved in bank robbery investigation. The squad sent units from its station in Whitehouse Station and its standby crew stationed in Branchburg, Somerset County. Both crews arrived on scene within moments after being dispatched and provided care to the injured FBI agent until he was flown to a Robert Wood Johnson hospital. The crews worked as federal, state, and local law enforcement provided protection as they scoured the scene for a suspect considered armed and dangerous that was still at large.

After medical care was provided the squad stood by late into the night to provide medical support for several hundred law enforcement and Office of Emergency Management personnel as they conducted a manhunt for the escaped suspect that fled from the bank. The squad’s Rehab Unit responded to assist with coffee, food, and rehabilitation support for the three hundred plus personnel on scene.

The Whitehouse Rescue Squad provides emergency medical care, rescue services, and rehab services for the majority of Readington Townhsip, parts of Tewksbury and Clinton Township and half of Lebanon Boro. The squad also provides day time coverage for Branchburg Rescue Squad Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The extra crew in Branchburg allowed for an additional crew on the scene of this dynamic situation. The squad also responded to calls for service not relating to this incident.

Whitehouse Squad Chief George Litothake said, “I am proud of the volunteers and staff that responded to this dangerous scene and the prompt and professional care they provided. Their continuous and rigorous training and quick response is second to none and really was demonstrated here.”
