Whitehouse Rescue Squad Responded on 9-11 and Continues to Respond 365 Days a Year
By 11 a.m. on the morning of September 11, 2001, more than ten members of the Whitehouse Rescue Squad arrived at Liberty State Park to set up a surgical hospital and triage center. At the same time our then Chief, Jeff Herzog, recognized a critical need and re-established an Incident Command Post in the area. Earlier command had been compromised after vital atennas for New York City were detroyed along with the World Trade Center. To do so Herzog used our Incident Command Vehicle that he himself designed.
In addition, the squad's Mass Casualty Trailer (designed by our current Chief, George Liothake) was deployed to the catastrophe. This trailer was one of the first in the state and is still the only one in the county. Furthermore, Station 22 served as the staging area for all of Hunterdon County Emergency Medical Services responding to assist New York City in rescue and recovery efforts. Hundreds of First Responders volunteered for 12 hour shifts for two weeks following the 9-11 events. Whitehouse Rescue Squad simultaneously answered all calls for help within our own community.
We now invite you to enjoy a 71/2 minute presentation created almost six years ago. This video captures the spirt and mission of our squad. The music and narration by our past officers is quite moving.
